The people of Belgaum heaved a sigh of relief when the DC Anubukumar and the Sandeep Patil SP of Belgaum armed with the interim orders of the High court of Karnataka (circuit bench Dharwad) have stopped the collection of Toll by the Cantonment board. Four writ petitions were filed by various groups including the Belgaum chamber of commerce.
Even when the interim orders were passed on March 21, 2012 the Cantonment board was still collecting the toll until 3rd April on the pretext that that the orders were only for specific petitioners.
However as the Belgaum Chamber of commerce and industries was a party to the petition whose thousands of members have several thousands of commercial vehicles which are also covered under the order.
The said order was firmly enforced by the DC and the SP.
We on this blog had stated from the beginning that the DC and the SP should act firm on the board and they have acted on this.
