Bus bays marked

May 23, 2012 by Editor May 23, 2012 17 Comments

The Belgaum Traffic police is spending about 50 lakhs getting the city with some better traffic sense to follow.

We have now Zebra crossings marked at almost all circles. We have the new reflectors, traffic eyes installed as well and BUS bays being marked.

This is for the first time that actually BUS BAYS have been marked in the city. The city buses with lack of bus shelters used to stop anywhere the drivers felt like and hence caused a lot of problems to the traffic.busbay

Now with the BUS bays being marked and we hope the same has been communicated to the KSRTC bus drivers that they need to stop their bus within the bus bay marking. In fact fines should be imposed for not doing so.

Bus bays have been marked at many places like Chennamma circle, D Sambhaji Chowk, College road etc.

No doubt the Zebra crossings have also being marked but people are not encouraged to use the same

What’s the use of these bus bays ? Have u ever seen buses parked in these bays?

All the Traffic problems in most of the Indian Cities arise only due to wrong parking by the city buses near the bus stops….pl observe …

Belgaum needs a flyover or underpass immediately before traffic gets choked up every day ….flyover and underpass are required at (1) near CBT circle (2) Chennamma circle (3) Bogarves 1st gate and (4) 3rd gate . The administration should start working on these ASAP.

It would cost 50 lacs to mark the lines (which perhaps the buses might not use after 3 months). I would hope that the roads be widened up so that this in future would make sense.

Firstly thanks to the belgaum traffic police for taking the initiative. Actually this work has to be done by CCB, but unfortunately they don’t have time to improve the city or city traffic. the corporate are buys filling their pockets…. Vehicle drivers are also responsible for bad traffic sense. Zebra crossing , cat eys bus bay. marked on roads will make no difference at all , unless the citizens of belgaum change their behaviour and think smartly . I wish all the school are doing their bit by teaching all the young students about the traffic rules & sense of driving, since they are the future of belgaum city & India.

We as a citizen of belgaum should come together & make up small group of community & start developing small area to improve the city.

Agree of people of Belgaum coming up with such activities.
A team in Bangalore has been proactively doing it. Watch it here

Unless the civic sense of the vehicle riders improve there is no use in such measures, have you seen how many vehicles stop at zebra crossings to allow pedestrians to cross unless a cop signals so or how many wear helmets for their own safety unless penalised..

A good initiative and can be effective to some extent only until the dust and rains wipe off the markings.
Instead should think of promoting initiative of building bus stops with shelter especially considering there are numerous schools around this area, the students can hide from the scorching heat and rains and safely stand away from the roads until the buses arrive.

Appreciate the work done by belgaum’s Traffic police and extend my big thanks to them.

But I thought that this work has to be done by City corportation (ahh our corporator are busy organizing events like talent hunt, cricket etc…) or the PWD dept.
Traffic police need to concentrate more on free traffic flow and avoiding congestions.
Any way once again thanks to Traffic police dept.
