First Bank branch was opened in Belagavi in 1867

Presidency Bank of Bombay opened its Belgaum (now Belagavi) branch in 1867.
The Belgaum BankLtd was established in Belgaum in 1930.
Sangli Bank Ltd. Opened its branch in Belgaum in 1931.
Syndicate bank was opened in 1934 which was it 12th branch.
Canara Bank opened in 1938. Later Central Bank of India opened its branch in 1945 and then the Imperial Bank of India (presently the State Bank of India) in 1946.

A Pay office was opened in 1927 by Imperial Bank of India. Belgaum Bank merged with the Union Bank of India in 1975.
Bank of Maharashtra, Ganesh bank of Kurundwad entered banking industry in the district in 1956 and 1958 respectively. By 1957 district had 37 branches in about 13 centres of the district.

The Supreme Bank of India, Belgaum was wound up in 1956.
The Bank of Citizen (Belgaum – 1937) was merged with Corporation Bank.
The new Citizens Bank of India, Bombay (1937) which had a Belgaum branch was merged with Bank of Baroda.
Bank of Karnataka (Hubli) had a branch operational since 1947 in Belgaum was merged with Bank of Karnataka. Miraj State Bank Ltd which had a branch in Belgaum was merged with Union Bank of India.

Pioneer Urban Co-operative Bank was established in 1906 and then reconstituted as urban credit bank in 1921-22.

  1. Good to know information..A small modification required.. U mentioned bank of karnataka merged with bank of karnataka.It has to be bank of karnataka merged with karnataka bank.
