Amidst Lok Sabha Election 2024 preparations, the Election Commission introduces a groundbreaking ‘vote-from-home’ initiative tailored for seniors aged 85 and above and Persons with Disabilities (PwD). This move aims to empower lakhs of seniors and PwDs to exercise their voting rights conveniently.

What is the ‘vote-from-home’ facility?

The Election Commission unveils the ‘Vote From Home’ scheme, a pioneering effort in India’s democratic history. This initiative targets citizens aged 85 and above and individuals with over 40% disabilities, enabling them to participate in the electoral process from the comfort of their homes.

How to register to Vote from Home?

Eligible individuals need to complete Form 12D and notify the Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) about their inability to visit polling stations. Form 12D is available for download on the Election Commission’s official website or can be obtained from the representative district officer’s office. The distribution of forms has already commenced in select cities.

This Application must reach RO within 5 days following the date of notification of
elections.

Subsequently, polling officials, accompanied by a videographer and security personnel, will visit the eligible individual’s residence to supervise the postal ballot voting process. Prior intimation about the visit’s date and time will be sent to the voter via SMS or post.
