Darshan Production’s ‘MEE VASANTRAO’ to be screened at Cannes

Belagavi’s young and dynamic production house, Darshan Production’s movie “Mee Vasantrao” has been selected to be screened at The Marche’ du Film Cannes. The Marche du Film (lit. Film Market) is the business counterpart of the famous ‘Cannes Film Festival’ and is one of the largest film markets in the world. Every year, the Union Ministry of Information & Broadcasting organizes the Indian Pavillion to represent Indian Cinema at Cannes. This year ‘Mee Vasantrao’ will be one of the movies.

‘Mee Vasantrao’ is a biopic based on the life of the legendary music maestro, late Vasantrao Deshpande. The movie’s title role is played by Rahul Deshpande, Vasantrao Deshpande’s grandson, who is a prominent figure in the Indian classical music scene.

Directed by talented National award winner, Nipun Dharmadhikari, it features stars like Anita Date, Amey Wagh, Pushkaraj Chirputkar and Kaumudi Walokar in pivotal roles.

The movie was slated for theater release, but Covid has push forwarded these dates. Those who have seen the teaser are anxiously awaiting to watch it on big screen and witness its musical melody. Despite the unforeseen conditions, movie producers Chandrashekar Gokhale, Darshan Desai, Niranjan Kirloskar and Shrikant Desai anticipate the movie to be a major success across various platforms.

“The best things in life come to those who have patience & perseverance. We like what we do, we do it with passion and commitment”, Shrikant Desai, managing director of Darshan Productions, was quoted saying.

When asked what’s next for Darshan Productions, he further added, “We have 3 great Marathi movies ready to be released on the big screen. Once the national health situation improves and things open up, we are certain these movies will not only entertain the audience but also grab some awards. Darshan productions will also diversify to Hindi, Kannada and other regional categories and expand its target market”.
