7 arrested in Bengaluru in connection with Shivaji Maharaj statue vandalism

Chetan Gowda and 6 others members of the Karnataka Ranadheera Pade were arrested in Bengaluru’s Sadashivanagar on Friday night in connection with defacing the Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue in Bhashyam Circle.

According to police, all have been apprehended based on evidence and CCTV video showing activist activities in the region. In the same case, an investigation has been initiated.

The activists allegedly vandalised the Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue in response to Sena’s move of burning the Kannada flag.

Around 20 vehicles were damaged on Friday night in Belagavi while protesting against the defacing of the statue of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Bengaluru.

Total 3 cases registered in Camp Khade Bazar and Market police station for stone-pelting n damaging the vehicles in different places of the city. 27 accused arrested.

Another 100 persons have been identified based on CCTV footage the police said. Meanwhile prohibitory orders under sec 144 have been extended up to Monday morning 6 AM in Belagavi.
