The media had highlighted the Belgaum south AC as a BIG fight game with three stalwarts Abhay Patil, Sambhaji Patil and Anil Potdar fighting out each other.

This time the main reason for the victory of MES candidate Sambhaji Patil is that there were no rebels. Sambhaji Patil secured 54426 votes that is 41.24%. Abhay Patil of the BJP and the sitting MLA secured 48116 votes which is 36.46%. In 2008 Abhay Patil had secured 39.97 % votes and had won. So his share of votes have declined and they entirely look to have gone to the MES candidate. In 2008 Sambhaji Patil was a congress candidate and had secured 24.84% and MES candidate Saynak had got 28.61% votes.

So you would say then that this time the % vote should have been 53%, but Anil Potdar came in to get the votes but he was not very successful as there are not many minority votes in this constituency.

The Rebels helped Sanjay Patil to regain Belgaum Rural Seat, story is a complete opposite here. Due to no rebels MES could taste victory here.
Also one more reason could be the anti incumbency against the sitting MLA which made people to vote for Sambhaji Patil.

  1. yeh Goutam! You are rght.
Here all Marathas are not in one umbrella. so Mr vijay plz check your statement no 2.( Well orchestrated constant media campaign, especially by Tarun Bharat which played major role in arousing Marathas and brought them under one umbrella.)

It may hurt Non-MES Maratha who always support BJP and Congress from past 60 years.

  2. 5. Internal feud between state BJP leaders, corruption, raise of rebel parties also may have done the damage.

  3. My views on BJPs defeat.
    1. Lack of unity and division amongst voters (Congress, KJP, JDS, etc) and presence of one more popular stalwart Potdar in fray.
    2. Well orchestrated constant media campaign, especially by Tarun Bharat which played major role in arousing Marathas and brought them under one umbrella.
    3. MES and their media invested all their strength (men, money, time) in Belgaum south, rather than focussing all their seats.
    4. Reluctance and low voter turnout in BJPs main vote base may have played significant role.

    • Dont you think we many of Maratha’s voted BJP and Congress? make sure, more than kannadigas we marathi ppl support these two national parties.

yeh you are right, local media played best here, but we hardly get influenced by Tarun Bharat else Marathas have not voted to Mr manohar Kinekar who lost the race for only 1300 votes.

      The same way…
My views on Manohar Kinnekar defeat.
      1. Lack of unity and division amongst voters (MES, Congress, KJP, JDS, etc) and presence of one more popular stalwart Suthankar in fray.
      2. Well orchestrated constant media campaign, especially by Tarun Bharat which played major role against Mr Kinnekar.
      3. MES and their media invested all their strength (men, money, time.

( so it doesn’t mean that Maratha only supports MES) we think beyond MES Too..
