Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Alok Kumar announced in a press conference at the Police Commissionerate that after the Ganeshotsav festival, autorickshaws in Belagavi city will be required to operate with meters. ADGP Alok Kumar highlighted that after Bangalore, Belagavi recorded the highest number of accidents and fatalities. To address this, he emphasized the need to improve traffic flow on hazardous roads and has directed officials to focus on achieving smoother traffic conditions.
“Belagavi Police Commissionerate was established in 2014, yet autorickshaw fares are still not being collected according to the meter,” ADGP Kumar stated. “This should have been implemented earlier, but there has been a delay. Instructions have now been given to Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan, the Police Commissioner, and the Regional Transport Officer to address this issue. Officials have assured that rickshaw fare collection by meter will commence, but they have requested a deadline of twenty days to implement this. Meter enforcement will be initiated after Ganeshotsav. Unmetered rickshaw fares are burdening the common man, and arbitrary tariffs are being levied,” he added.
Over the past three months, accidents and deaths within the Belagavi Police Commissionerate and district have decreased. However, Belagavi still ranks second to Bangalore in terms of accidents and fatalities. Notices are being sent to residents for traffic violations, but there has been minimal response, with only 16 percent compliance. To address this, a special campaign has been instructed. Additionally, ADGP Kumar has ordered strict action against riding motorcycles without helmets and driving under the influence of alcohol.

If administration succeed it’s good. Before also administration had tried and failed. In fact rickshaw union must be taken in to confidence and must be explained about benefits of app based rickshaw service. They will get return passengers. Also more People will start using rickshaw. Even rickshaw union can have there own app.like in Bangalore.
