The Government has surveyed defense land located outside Cantonments across the country. In addition, demarcation of boundaries of 62 Cantonments has also been carried out.
The Belagavi cantonment is spread over 1,604.68 acres.
In the terms of landholding, the Belagavi cantonment stands at 29th place out of the 62 listed by the defense ministry.
Almora cantonment has the least land holding of 156.25 acres while Delhi Cantonment has the highest holding of 8666.58 acres of land.
The unutilized land is primarily used to cater to the future needs of the Forces. Requests for transfer of defense land received from Central Govt. Departments, State Governments and organisations controlled by it and also local bodies for the execution of public infrastructure / utility projects are considered on merits, if it is felt that the land can be alienated without compromising the essential functions of the user service as per terms and conditions contained in Ministry of Defence letters dated 02.02.2016 & 21.10.2020.
