The Hon’ble High Court has directed the Belagavi City Corporation to pay substantial compensation to landowners affected by two road projects in the city. The ruling mandates that the Corporation disburse a total of ₹20 crores to the land owners whose land was acquired for the construction of a road in front of Bank of India Circle to Old PB road. This project was undertaken as part of the Belagavi Smart City initiative.
In addition, the Corporation has been ordered to compensate other landowners affected by the widening of Mahatma Phule Road, which connects to the aforementioned project, with a sum of ₹70 lakhs.
Compounding the Corporation’s financial woes, delayed payment of GST amounting to ₹5 crores has now escalated to ₹8 crores due to penalties. Faced with this significant financial burden, the Belagavi Municipal Corporation has scheduled an emergency meeting on August 27, 2024, at 11:30 AM to discuss and address the pressing issue of compensation and GST payments.
Where will the money come from? Surely somebody is responsible…??
They will use public’s pocket…Their’s will untouched.
