For the first time, the Monsoon Session of the State Legislature is likely to be held at Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi this year, marking a significant political development for the district. With the possibility of the session being shifted from the traditional Winter Session slot to July or August, the district administration has already begun preparatory meetings and coordination with multiple departments.
According to preliminary discussions, the session may be held either in the first or second week of July and is expected to continue for around ten days. In view of this, the administration has started planning for the arrival of more than 5,000 people in Belagavi, including MLAs, Members of the Legislative Council, senior government officials, political party office-bearers and police personnel from across the state.
A key focus of the meeting was accommodation arrangements. Officials discussed advance booking of rooms in hotels, lodges, guest houses and residential apartments across the city. Special arrangements are also expected at guest houses belonging to Visvesvaraya Technological University, the Forest Department and the Public Works Department. The meeting chaired by the District Collector also reviewed room availability in everything from five-star hotels to standard lodging facilities.
The upcoming session is expected to take up important issues such as irrigation projects in North Karnataka, regional development concerns and demands for special funds for the Kittur Karnataka and Kalyana Karnataka regions.

At the same time, the monsoon season is likely to bring fresh challenges for the administration. Accommodation and transport planning will need additional caution, especially with heavy rains expected during the period. Rising diesel and petrol prices have also pushed up vehicle rental costs, while hotel expenses for food and stay have reportedly increased, making the session more expensive for the administration to manage.
District Collector Mohammed Roshan said no official announcement has yet been made by the government, but preparations have begun following instructions to hold the meeting. โNo official announcement has been made by the government yet. However, preparations are currently underway following the instructions received to convene the meeting. Accordingly, an inspection of the necessary arrangements for the first phase has already been conducted. Based on the directives, there is a strong likelihood that the legislative session will indeed be held,โ he said.
Traditionally, the session held in December has created booking difficulties in Belagavi, especially during the marriage season, when hotel reservations often get cancelled or remain unavailable. With the Winter Session likely to be moved to the monsoon period, that issue may ease. However, the shift could now place the administration in the middle of a new set of logistical challenges brought on by the rains.
