Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the new office of the Commissioner of Police here on Friday afternoon. The new office of the Commissioner has been housed in the existing old office of Superintendent of Police in the district police headquarters.
The establishment of a Police Commissionerate in Belgaum was announced in the budget presented by Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar in the 2013–14 budget. The Congress regime as well accepted the decade-old demand for the establishment of a police Commissionerate in Belgaum.
In 2006 the then H.D. Kumaraswamy govt had approved the establishment of the same. 15 police stations would be under the Police Commissionerate which includes 12 for Law and order 2 for traffic and one Womens police station.
In all 514 new posts have been created. In which Market, Khade Bazar, Rural and Traffic stations would have 5 new ACP’s, 19 PI, 34 PSIs, 73 ASI, 256 CSC and 780 constables.
