The Camp Police have cracked a major theft case involving gold ornaments and cash worth over ₹75 lakh stolen from the residence of an elderly citizen on Club Road, arresting two accused and recovering the entire stolen property.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Belagavi City Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase said the prime accused, Rahul Kamble, had been appointed by the victim’s family to look after the health and daily needs of an elderly man, Vishwanath, while his children were away.
According to the police, Rahul Kamble gained the family’s trust and regularly visited the house. During this period, he gathered information about valuables kept in the residence and identified the location of gold ornaments and cash. Taking advantage of his access, he allegedly stole the valuables over a period of time without arousing suspicion.

Following a complaint lodged by Annapurna Vishwanath, a resident of Club Road, Camp Police registered Crime No. 41/2026 under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on May 11 and launched an investigation.
The probe revealed that a total of 350 grams of gold ornaments worth ₹52.50 lakh and cash amounting to ₹22.80 lakh had been stolen from the house, taking the total value of the theft to ₹75.30 lakh.
Further investigation found that the stolen gold ornaments had been pledged at a branch of Muthoot Finance by the second accused, Babasaheb Katageri, to obtain money.
Acting on technical evidence and specific leads, Camp Police traced and arrested both accused. The police successfully recovered the stolen gold ornaments and cash, collectively valued at ₹75.30 lakh.
Commissioner Borase commended the investigating team for solving the case and recovering the entire stolen property. He also advised citizens, particularly those keeping large quantities of gold at home, to use bank lockers and other secure storage facilities to safeguard their valuables.
Further investigation is underway.
