Central team says Belagavi worst affected by drought

The three member special team from the Centre was here to assess the drought situation in Belagavi district, and the central team officials said that the situation appeared to be worst in these areas. S.B. Tiwari, Under Secretary, Salim Haider, Assistant Adviser, Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, and Deputy Director of Central Electricity Authority Kamal Chavhan are part of the central team.


drought-visitThey visited villages in Bailhongal, Ramdurg and Saundatti taluks of Belagavi district and studying factors such as the drinking water supply, availability of fodder for cattle, job creation under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and electricity supply system.

The members interacted with farmers affected by crop loss and took detailed information from district officials. They will submit their report to the Centre within a week.
