The repair work on the highway connecting Chorla Ghat to Belagavi is nearing completion, offering a major relief to passengers travelling between Goa and Karnataka. For years, potholes and irregular roads had made travel on this route arduous, but the upgraded road promises a smoother journey once the work is finalized, which is expected by the end of February.
This significant undertaking was announced last year when Karnataka PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi revealed that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had allocated ₹58 crore for the project. The Karnataka Public Works Department was entrusted with repairing 43.381 kilometres of the Karnataka side of this critical route.
The 51-kilometer highway, long plagued by deteriorating conditions and scattered stones, had become a source of frustration for commuters over the last decade. However, the ongoing repair and carpeting work, carried out on a war footing, aims to restore the road to a reliable condition.
Additionally, a key enhancement to the highway includes the construction of a new bridge over the Malaprabha River. The British-era bridge currently in use is being demolished to make way for a modern structure, ensuring better safety and durability for years to come.
- The 51-kilometer Belagavi-Goa route through Chorla Ghat is set for completion by February.
- Repair and resurfacing work is in its final stages.
- A new bridge is being constructed over the Malaprabha River, replacing the old British-era structure.
Once completed, the refurbished highway will not only enhance connectivity but also significantly improve travel comfort for passengers commuting between the two states.
Came on 6/1/25 . 4 -5 kms were very bad. You have to choose which pothole , or which sharp edges to put your tyres on. But definitely better than my earlier trip maybe 2 years back, where there was a ditch in the middle of the road, big enough for a baby elephant to sleep in it. Traveling back tomorrow 9/1/25, hoping most of the work is done . Will update if possible.
Quality will be tested in upcoming mansoon.
When do we expect the completion of Anmod Ramnagar Londa highway which is in a pathetic condition for years together
Will the commuters ever see the day of light???
