Fifty people have been summoned by the Tahsildar and Belgaum taluk executive magistrate Preetam Nasalapur for the breach of peace in the city. Issued under sec 107 of Code of Criminal Procedure and were made after the police prepared a list following the communal violence which claimed two lives.
Life was back to normal in all parts of the city including the sensitive areas. Some minor incidents of bottle throwing did occur, but the police have contained the situation.
The streets were a buss with activity as usual but the police closed the shops after 9pm citing security reasons. The hotels / restaurants have been asked to be open until 8pm till September 1. Rapid Action Force conducted a flagmarch in Peeranwadi, the locality from where the communal clashes began.
At present there 18 KSRP platoons, 10 DAR platoons, and two companies of Rapid Action Force ready to deal with any situation. The security would be in place for a few more days.
Police have arrested 125 persons in connection with the violence at Peeranwadi, Vishnu Galli and other areas in the city. Rumourmongers ruled the day by circulating false reports of violence.
