COBRA ( COmmando Battalion for Resolute Action) is a specialised unit of the CRPF created to counter the Naxalite problem in India. The central government in a fresh sanction of funds Rs.2079 crores a COBRA commando school would be set up in Belgaum. The same was disclosed at the monthly press meet by Sushil Kumar Shinde, home minister.
This specialised CRPF unit is one of the few units of the Central Armed Police Forces in the country who are specifically trained in guerilla warfare. This elite fighting unit has been trained to track, hunt and eliminate small Naxalite groups.
The CRPF’s college of insurgency and jungle craft in Khanapur (Belgaum) will train Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in guerrilla operations required for anti-naxal duties while the dog school will train ‘infantry patrol’ canines for the force, who will be deployed with troops in similar duties.
