A CRPF jawan who was a resident of Gokak Taluka was killed and another injured when a grenade was hurled at their vehicle by suspected militants at Nagampal area of Imphal town in Manipur on Saturday.
The incident took place at around 6.15 pm and the CRPF jawan who was identified as Umesh M Helawar (35) was killed on the spot in the blast.
The hand grenade went off inside the CRPF vehicle when it started moving after a brief halt at Nagamapal Bazar in Imphal Saturday evening.
CRPF officials claimed that militant attacked the truck carrying the jawans by hurling a grenade.
It is understood that martyred Umesh picked one of the grenades and jumped out of the army vehicle saving others. Another grenade exploded outside the vehicle. Martyred Umesh lost his palm but impact appears to be the injury on his head. A big procession took place in Gokak town..
