Lieutenant General Ravi Thodge, AVSM, SM, VSM, Master General Ordnance, Indian Army (Retd.), at an interactive meeting, jointly organized by All India Association of Industries (AIAI) and World Trade Centre Mumbai said that Ministry of Defence was developing a testing center for Defense Procurement Assistance Center in Belagavi, Karnataka.
This will also help MSMEs with testing facilities.
Government is attempting to boost MSME sector’s contribution to indigenous manufacturing in defense from 20-30% at present to 70% in next 5 years under its ambitious Make in India programme, he added further.
Defence Procurement Assistance Centre (DPAC) located within the premises of Belgaum Foundry Cluster was inaugurated by Lt Gen Raveendra Thodge on 04 Jun 2016. Maj Gen KN Mirji (Retd) and Maj Gen Mohan Katti (Retd) are rendering advice and guidance to the local industries and encouraging them to manufacture components and assemblies for the armed forces. There is a proposal to establish Testing Facilities of DGQA at Belgaum so that the samples produced here can be tested locally.
