Diocesan day of reparation on Nandgad hill on Friday

While thousands of pilgrims coming from Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra and other states are flocking to the miraculous cross atop Nandgad hill near Khanapur in Belagavi district, like every year, diocese of Belgaum has organized a day of reparation to be held on Friday march 18.

Large number of faithful from different parts of Goa is expected to take part in the day long pilgrimage

holy-cross-nandgadGiving details about the day long prayer services parish priest of Nandgad Rev Fr Vijay Mendith said that like every year, the youth of Godholi village would be presenting a live way of the Cross that would commence from the Immaculate Conception Church, Nandgad at 9.30 am. Scenes from the Holy Bible depicting Jesus carrying the cross to the mountain before he was crucified and agony he went through would be presented live.

Later at the foothills huge pendal has been set up for the celebration of special prayers and mass services for the pilgrims. First mass in Kannada would be held at 11.30 am by Fr Anthony Fernandes, second mass would be held at 12.30 pm by Fr Balaraju at 12.30 pm. Bishop Peter Machado will be concelebrating a Konkani mass for the benefit of Konkani speaking pilgrims coming from Goa, Maharashtra and from coastal Karnataka include pilgrims from the upper ghats region in north Karnataka.

Elaborate arrangements have been made to accommodate the pilgrims who take part in the day long prayers offering their pleas and petitions or express gratitude to the Miraculous Cross,” Fr Mendith said urging pilgrims to pay a visit to the Cross.

Meanwhile, Bishop Peter Machado has reiterated urged the authorities to provide a basic infrastructure like a proper approach road and drinking water facilities for the benefit of the pilgrims. A memorandum in this regard was submitted to Khanapur MLA Arvind Patil.
