From August 1, 2014, Police Commissionerate for Belagavi was made operational and IGP Bhaskar Rao would be the first Commissioner of Police.
But from day one the Commissioner of Police did not have an office of its own. Since the beginning, it is housed in the SP office.
Then there were plans to shift the office to the half-built Police Gymkhana building at Sangolli Rayana Circle, but that to did not work out.
Now it has been finalized that the office of the Commissioner of Police Belagavi will be built at the site of City Police Lines College Road, behind the RLS Campus.
The estimated cost for the construction is 19 Crore and would be completed by December 2020. All those staying there at the police quarters would be shifted to the newly constructed accommodation elsewhere.
The new building will house all the departments under the Commissionerate under one roof.
