Belagavi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Roshan has directed RTA that auto-rickshaws in the city must operate as per fixed fares to prevent overcharging commuters. He emphasized the need for a structured fare system, including minimum, maximum, and nighttime charges, for the benefit of the public.

To ensure transparency, he instructed that fare charts be displayed at key locations such as the Central Bus Terminus (CBT), railway station, bus stands, and major roundabouts, so passengers are not overcharged.

Chairing the District Road Safety Committee meeting on Thursday (March 6) at the DC’s office, he also addressed various urban traffic concerns. Notably, seven CCTV cameras at key locations in Shahpur, Udyambag, and Tilakwadi were found non-functional. He directed Smart City officials to ensure their immediate repair.

One-Way Traffic and Parking Solutions

DC Roshan highlighted severe congestion near the Library and the Zilla Panchayat office. To ease traffic, he suggested designating parking areas, modifying one-way routes, and taking measures to regulate vehicular movement. Unauthorized parking in critical areas around the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Regional Commissioner’s office, and Zilla Panchayat premises should be cleared.

He stressed that CCTV cameras within city limits should function continuously, and additional cameras should be installed at required locations. Signboards and notice boards must be placed at accident-prone areas and road turns to warn motorists.

Enhancing Road Safety in Black Spots

Identifying accident-prone zones (black spots), DC Roshan ordered the installation of cautionary signboards urging motorists to reduce speed. He called for proactive measures, including road repairs, to prevent accidents. Additionally, awareness campaigns on road safety must be conducted for the public.

Strict Action Against Traffic Violations

City Police Commissioner Iada Martin stressed the need to identify high-risk roads and enforce strict one-way traffic regulations. Noting that traffic violations are rampant, he urged for stricter enforcement of road safety laws and immediate action against offenders to ensure safer roads in Belagavi.

  2. The content of this article is a total let down, compared to it’s title…it doesn’t make justice!! No mention about the outcome/solution to this autowala problem.. down south, in more progressive administrations of UK district, and south Karnataka, there are prepaid auto services, in place to curb the menace!!
