A devastating fire claimed the lives of four members of the same family in Chavat Galli, Belagavi, late Monday night amid Ganeshotsav celebrations. Two others were critically injured and shifted to hospital for treatment.
The fire reportedly broke out after a refrigerator exploded, quickly engulfing the entire house. The victims were trapped inside and could not escape the flames.
The deceased have been identified as Gajanan Damone (65), Roshan Damone (21), Sharada Damone (45) and Bharati Damone (50).
Priya Damone (28) and Ganga Damone (25) sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment.
The family, which depended on manual labour for its livelihood, was struck by the tragedy on Ganesh Chaturthi, leaving relatives and neighbours in shock.
The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Market Police Station.
