A tragic incident occurred during the Ganesh immersion procession in the city, where a devotee lost his life after being run over by a tractor on the Kapileshwar flyover- Patil Galli around 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Sadanand B. Chavan-Patil (age 48), a resident of Patil Galli, Yellur-Sulga, Belagavi. According to the information received, the Ganesh immersion procession, which continued into the second day, was moving from Kapileshwar flyover toward Kapileshwar with the public Ganesh idol being transported on trucks and tractors.
As the procession progressed, a tractor carrying the idol suddenly lost control while descending the flyover at around 10 a.m. In the unexpected incident, Sadanand, who was unaware of the approaching danger, was struck by the tractor and tragically run over by its wheels.
Sadanand, who sustained severe head injuries from the impact, was rushed to the civil hospital in a critical condition. However, despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Another worker, Vijay Rajagol (age 56) from Tegin Galli, Vadgaon, was also injured in the accident.
