Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced the construction of a new parallel road from Sankhali-Chorla-Belagavi after chairing a review meeting of ongoing national highway works in the State on Saturday.

The state of Goa has proposed that the Central government construct a parallel road to connect Belagavi from Sanquelim via Khanapur to protect the environment. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has requested the state to submit a detailed project report (DPR) for the construction of this road via Chorla, according to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who also holds the Public Works Department (PWD) portfolio.

There has been a long-standing demand to expand the Sanquelim to Belagavi road due to the increase in traffic. Sawant stated that instead of expanding the stretch to a four-lane road, the construction of a parallel road would resolve the issue while also protecting the environment. “If we obtain forest clearance, then the work will commence,” he added.

  1. Can we get half decent roads in Goa? We don’t need more highways brining in more disgusting domestic tourists, we need good roads for us in Goa..

  3. Goa is no longer a preferred holiday location…it’s become a drunkards destination. There is a lot of attitude the locals show, and the tourists are a harassed lot, by the tourism industry. Decent crowds prefer other locations, within and outside the country.
