Select 76 student from various colleges from Belgaum had an introductory workshop on Ham Radio at the SJN Science Centre Belgaum.
It was a joint collaboration of Belgaum Association for Science Education Trust, Dr. SJN Science centre and HAMBEL Amateur Radio Club Belgaum. Dr. S.S Salimath Principal- S. G. Balekundri Institute of Technology, Prof. M.A.Hipparagi VU2PAL, President of Hambel Amateur Radio Club and Shri Jacob Jose VU2JOS, Deputy Director of National Institute of Amateur Radio Hyderabad were the guests of honour.
Dr. Salimath mentioned about the hobby being persuaded by people from all walks of life, and peoples from Technical field like engineering students can contribute a lot to this hobby. He called upon the students to make use of Advanced Digital communication Network station established at SJN Science Centre. Prof. Hipparagi mentioned about the HAMBEL Amateur Radio club, Importance of hobby, contribution to the society by Ham Radio Operators as well as Ham Radio Activities taken up at Belgaum.
There were Power Point presentations by Shri Vijaykumar Sarvade VU2EXY , Shri Bhaskar R Joshi VU2BRJ, regarding salient features of Ham radio and Procedure to get a Ham Radio Licence. Tom Jose VU3TMO, a very young Ham of 15 years as well as Jacob Jose VU2JOS from NIAR Hyderabad spoke about Spirit of Adventures and Ham Radio. A live demonstration of Ham Radio operation was arranged for the benefit of participating students. 76 selected students from 5 Engineering Colleges of Belgaum actively participated in the workshop.
