Heavy rains lash city

Since a week there has been a heavy downpour in Belagavi, and the intensity on Tuesday has increased. The paddy fields in the Markandey river basin and Ballari Nala have been submerged.

Belagavi taluk has received 251 mm of rainfall in the month of July while Khanapur has received about 425 mm.

As the Rakaskop reservoir reached its highest level water was let out from it and the villages down the Markandeya river are on alert and many fields are submerged.

Crops in Ballari nala have been submerged due to encroachment and each year the farmers have to see the same fate for their crops in the area.

Some water logging has been reported from MG Colony Tilakwadi and other few low lying areas how ever the impact has been minimal as of now.

A bridge across rivulet Altari at Tivoli village in Khanapur taluk was washed away.
