A road safety awareness campaign aimed at increasing helmet usage among two-wheeler riders has yielded encouraging results, with more than 91 percent of riders now complying with helmet regulations.

Police Commissioner Bhushan Borse said a post-campaign survey conducted at two of the city’s busiest junctionsโ€”Ramdev Circle and Globe Circleโ€”found that 91.80 percent of riders were wearing helmets.

The survey monitored 2,820 two-wheeler riders during one-hour observation periods at both locations. Of these, 2,589 riders were found wearing helmets, while 231 were riding without them.

At Ramdev Circle, 1,134 of the 1,242 riders observed were wearing helmets, resulting in a compliance rate of 91.30 percent. Globe Circle recorded an even higher compliance rate of 92.20 percent, with 1,455 of 1,578 riders using helmets.

According to the police, the findings indicate a significant improvement in helmet usage following the awareness campaign. Officials also noted a reduction in traffic violations, suggesting that sustained awareness efforts are positively influencing public behaviour.

With helmets being one of the most effective measures to reduce fatalities and serious injuries in road accidents, authorities believe that continued enforcement and public education will further improve compliance levels across the city.
