To enhance road safety and ensure smoother traffic flow, the Belagavi Police Commissioner has announced a revised restriction on heavy vehicles within city limits. As per orders from Commissioner Yada Martina Marbanyang, I.P.S., heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) weighing over 3 tonnes are now restricted from entering city areas from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
These restrictions, effective under Section 115 of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1938, Vehicle Rule 221-A(5), and the Karnataka Traffic Control Act, 1960, apply across all city roads, including those in the Belagavi Municipal Corporation and Cantonment areas. The National Highway-4 (Pune-Bangalore Road) is exempt from this ban.
The restrictions do not apply to essential service vehicles, including school buses, milk trucks, vehicles carrying petrol products, urban transport, and sugarcane transport trucks during harvest season. Light vehicles under 3 tonnes carrying fruits and vegetables are also permitted to enter city limits during these hours.
This revised schedule replaces the previous restriction timings of 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., ensuring more efficient traffic regulation during peak hours.
