Jagadish Shettar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate vying for the Belagavi Lok Sabha seat, addressed the media in a press conference on Thursday. Expressing his deep-rooted connection with Belagavi, he emphasized, “Belagavi is not unfamiliar territory to me; I share a three-decade-long association with this region. My approach to leadership is built on trust and collaboration with all stakeholders.”
Highlighting his origins, Shettar remarked, “While Hubballi marks my birth, Belagavi stands as my professional abode.” He recounted his active involvement in the district’s affairs during the tumultuous times of the COVID-19 pandemic and floods. He proudly noted the establishment of a prestigious SVS under his direction.
During the press conference held in Belagavi on Thursday, Shettar acknowledged the concerted efforts of local leaders in addressing the region’s challenges. He expressed gratitude for being nominated as the party’s candidate under his extensive 30-year-long involvement and familiarity with the district. He underscored his family’s longstanding allegiance to the BJP, tracing back to the days of the Jan Sangh.
Touching upon his political journey, Shettar revealed a brief stint with the Congress post his departure from the BJP. However, he returned to the BJP fold upon earnest invitations from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President J.P. Nadda. He recounted his active engagement with party activities in Belagavi during his tenure as the opposition leader.
Having served twice as the district in-charge minister of Belagavi, Shettar emphasized his continuous dedication to the region’s development. He highlighted his resilience in working amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and his commitment to the welfare of the local community, as evident from his permanent residency and infrastructure investments in Belagavi.
Shettar affirmed ongoing efforts to address both minor and major issues in the district, signaling a proactive approach toward initiating developmental projects for the region’s prosperity.
