Panchayat Raj Engineer Arrested as ₹27 Lakh Cash Seized

Duradundeshwar Bannura, an assistant executive officer of the Panchayat Raj in Khanapur sub-division, Belagavi was apprehended by the Lokayukta on March 26 for allegedly accepting a bribe. The arrest came in connection with an incident where officials from the Panchayat Raj Engineering Sub-Division, Khanapur, were purportedly soliciting bribes from a Gram Panchayat member in exchange for technical approval for Narega works. Duradundeshwar Bannura was caught in the act and arrested on the 26th.

Following the arrest, a search was conducted at Bannura’s residence in Yallur village of Belagavi taluk, where he resides. During the search, authorities uncovered an unaccounted sum totaling ₹27,75,000 in cash and valuables. The cash has been seized pending further investigation, which is ongoing.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of S.P. Hanamantarai, Kalo Belagavi, DAP, Pushpalata, Niranjan Patil, PI, along with staff members Ravi Mavarakar, Rajshree Bhosale, Abhijita Jamakhandi, and the team from N.M. Mutt, as stated in the official release.
