The Railways has asked Container Corporation of India Limited to vacate the land leased to it at Desur as the said land is urgently required by Railways for developing a store of PGCIL for electrification purposes.
Since CONCOR will be vacating and handing over the land to Railways by 30-11-2019 and the operation associate has been advised to vacate the premises by 30-11-2019 duly removing the equipment from ICD/Desur.
The Container Corporation of India Limited, Navratna company under the Ministry of Railways started its terminal at Desur way back in 2004 but was not operational for a couple of years. It recommenced operations in 2018.
The main aim of the Inland container depot is to promote Domestic movement, Exports, and Imports movement.
Belagavi is second in Karnataka state when it comes to exports and ICD helps Customs clearance of exports and imports at DESUR. Now that this will be closed the foundry industry will be majorly hit.
