Rajya Sabha MP Iranna Kadadi raised a question in Parliament regarding the long-pending proposal to transfer 112 acres of civic areas from the Belagavi Cantonment Board to the Belagavi Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Kadadi sought clarification on the following points:
(a) Whether the Government is aware of the proposal to transfer 112 acres out of the total 1,763 acres of Belagavi Cantonment to the municipal corporation.
(b) Whether the transferred area includes markets, schools, hospitals, and government offices.
(c) The decision regarding the transfer of the remaining 1,651 acres, which primarily consists of bungalow areas.
(d) Whether any specific timeline has been set for the process.
(e) Whether an impact assessment has been conducted on financial and civic services, and if so, its details.

Government’s Response
In response, Minister of State for Defence, Shri Sanjay Seth, stated that the proposal for excision of civilian areas from Belagavi Cantonment is still under consideration. He added that the modalities for this transfer are yet to be finalized.
Furthermore, he highlighted that the excision of civilian areas is closely linked to the demarcation of military station boundaries, the details of which cannot be disclosed due to national security concerns.
The response indicates that while discussions are ongoing, there is no concrete timeline yet for the transfer. The issue remains crucial for local governance, as residents await clarity on civic administration and services in the affected areas.
