If the Belagavi City Corporation decides to make a payment of Rs. 20 crore towards the Land acquisition for the Shahpur Old PB Road Smart City Road construction, then the approval of the Cabinet is necessary.
The City Corporation has the authority to handle transactions up to Rs. 2 crore, and therefore the administration needs Cabinet approval to proceed with this payment, as informed by a retired IAS officer.
The City Corporation Commissioner had previously stated that the corporation had the authority to pay this amount. However, according to the retired IAS officers, it was revealed that Cabinet approval is necessary for such a large transaction. It was mentioned that only financial transactions up to Rs. 2 crore can be approved by the City Corporation independently. If a transaction exceeds Rs. 2 crore, it must be sanctioned by the Cabinet.
Social worker Sujit Mulgund The road work was carried out without following the proper land acquisition procedure. The decision to permit this road work was not taken in the Council meeting. Thus, to save public money, the elected body in the Council should decide to withdraw the road work and hand over the acquired land to its owners. BCC will only lose the road work worth Rs 7 crore instead of paying compensation to the land acquired, which will be around 45 crore
