The mega Marathi play magnum opus, Jaanta Raja, based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, will be staged from December 9 to 13 for 5 days at the CpEd grounds in Belagavi from 6.30 in the evening. Tarun Bharat Trust is organizing the same.

The play recreates 17th century scenes, including Shivaji’s coronation. The play is enacted against a massive replica of the Shaniwarwada- the seat of the Maratha empire in Pune.

jaantarajaWith a cast of 200 artistes, some of whom have been with the mega play since its first show in April 1985, the play is based on the life and times of Shivaji Maharaj. It gets the right historical feel for the audience with live horses, elephant and camels walking the stage. Written by renowned historian Babasaheb Purandare, the 3 hour 10 minute play will mesmerize each one with its grandeur and magnificence.

Presented on a 72ftx40ft stage with a height of 30ft it is a sheer joy to see the costumes, the horses, elephants and camels live.

Even local actors will take part in the mega play which also gives them a huge platform to perform with seniors artists. The sound, music and light affects all create a charged atmosphere.

Tickets are available at Lokmanya Rang Mandir and prices range from 200 to 1000.
