The historic Kittur Fort, a symbol of Karnataka’s rich heritage, is set for a major makeover, with the government allocating ₹30 crore for its conservation and beautification. The initiative, which aims to transform the monument into a significant tourist destination, will feature an electronic theme park and other attractions.
Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda laid the foundation for the project today, with work being spearheaded by the Department of Archaeology, Museums, and Heritage. The project comes in response to public demand for celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Kittur, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah approving the plan and releasing the funds.
“Of the allocated amount, ₹12 crore will be used to restore the monuments. Some sections of the fort are in a state of disrepair and will be our immediate focus. We have already invited tenders in collaboration with the Archaeology Department, and the repairs will be done using materials matching the original construction,” said Byre Gowda.
Earlier delays in reconstruction were attributed to the lack of original designs. The project will also include the development of a park in front of the fort, and the Rani Chennamma Bhavan is under construction at a cost of ₹3 crore. Furthermore, ₹5 crore has been set aside to ensure the Kittur Utsav is celebrated on a grand scale.
