BELGAUM: The Additional Director General (Lands), Directorate General of Defence Estates, New Delhi, has advised the Local Military Authorities (LMA), Southern Command, to withdraw the notices and letters related to resumption of bungalows in the Southern Command Area. In case of Belgaum LMA means the Station Commander and it must be recalled that in February 2012, officers and jawans of Station Headquarters began to measure up some 16 bungalows in Belgaum Camp – as a first step towards ‘resumption’ of these bungalows.

The resumption process was initiated, as the Army’s Public Information Officer informed the national press, to make way for the demolition of these historic colonial bungalows – to form a “Training Area”.

Resumption’ means the LMA wants to seek possession of the bungalows from the present occupants. While majority of the bungalows in the list are Old Grant Bungalows (OGBs), properties on lease form a part of the bungalows to be resumed.

Additional Director General Jojneshwar Sharma, in his letter dated November 6, stated, “The LMAs may specifically be advised not to issue any letter to the Holder of Rights (HOR)/lessee intimating about intention to resume any bungalow or site. In this regards, a copy of the Military of Defence No. 10(56)/2010-D (Q and C) dated 24.09.2013 issued to the Army Head Quarters recently has been attached for guidance and any such notices/ letters have been issued, the LMA may be advised to withdraw those”
