Members of KRV attacked the chamber of the Mayor and the deputy mayor at about 1 pm this afternoon and ransacked the the Mayors office breaking glass/tv.
A group of KRV activists were protesting infront of the City corporation stating that the Mayor and Dy.Mayor are acting against the rule of the state and shouted “Raj Drohi” .A few entered into the offices from behind and ransacked the offices and ran off.
The Mayor and the Dy.Mayor did not attend the Rajotsav function and had taken part in the black day rally.
Both the Mayor and the Dy.Mayor were not in their offices when their offices were attacked.
The MES has called for a Belgaum Bandh tomorrow(Friday) and said that this was a attack on democracy.
It is very likely that the Police may issue prohibitory orders to maintain law and order in the city. Extra police force has been sought from the state.
Two persons were taken into custody in regards to the stone pelting that happened in Tilakwadi on November 1.
There is also news of about 6 KSRTC buses being damaged by.
Its the duty of Mayor and deputy Mayor to participate in the function organised by the state government.KRV are right saying them as “Raj Dhrohi”.And its SHAME on Mayor and Deputy Mayor that they have participated in BLACK DAY.I don’t know who, how and on what basis these representatives are elected, who don’t have responsibilities towards the STATE(Karnataka) and the CITY(Belgaum). No one should support MES, as its just playing politics again(dividing people), and all Belgaumite’s should realise this and support any kind of “BANDH” IF IT IS ONLY FOR DEVELOPMENT OF THE CITY.!!!
In belgaum black day have been absorbed here from last 56 years by marathi peoples. This is against unjustified merge of belgaum in karnataka. Mayors & Deputy mayors are representing for marathi peoples also & they also have been elected as a corporator by major marathi people contribution. So it is their duty to respect the feelings of marathi people & participate in the black day or otherwise marathi people would have blamed them.
see friend ,again Ur making division between people.First of all the representatives should be neutral , because they are representing the whole city. Not only Marathi/Kannada.Also Now Belgaum is in Karnataka. So it should be their duty to participate in all functions organised by state government.I think every Mayor does the same thing(participate in all functions organised by state government) in other states/cities except in our city.
I am not making any division. Please understand the fundamental cause of the issue. It is big subject to explain you. Why marathi peoples have been absorbing black day here? It has been absorbed from last 56 years, when karnataka rajyotsav also not had been celebrated here in belgaum. In earlier days 1 st november was famous as black day & it was recognized by black day only in belgaum. As mayor represents whole city including marathi people, is not their moral responsibility to support marathi people? Everywhere mayor participates in all govt functions but in belgaum only it does not happen, Why? because basic cause is the black day. & why black day is observed here because it was a unjustified merge of belgaum in karnataka against majority of marathi speaking people. If they would paricipate in rajyotsav, it means that they have accepted belgaum in karnataka. But still peoples are absorbing the black day against the merge of belgaum in karnataka & not only MES. MES is not any political party, It is a organization of marathi speaking peoples who is fighting to merge belgaum in maharastra.
Now it's 5 decades has been completed for this issue. Both side people are facing problems in & around Belgaum. It's now Center, karanatka & Maharastra state responsibility to push supereme court to give decision on this issue. The decision should be acceptable from both sides. If supereme court is going to take time till then it should be under UT.
dude i think u miss the point they also represent kannada people so they should have participated in rajyotsawa celebrations also
Then why do they go to Karnataka government asking for money / grants? Shouldn't they stop that also?
Merge the belgaum in Maharastra then nobody will ask nothing from karnataka. Now we are paying the taxes & duties to karnataka government , we are officially staying in karnataka then we should ask to karnataka government only.
u said "officially we are staying in karnataka", so it is the duty of Mayor to attend all the official functions organised by Govt of Karnataka. They are repeating the mistakes done by previous mayor's.and they are facing the same result. But they have participated in the MES rally, who are immatured, and dont hav any vision, goal for developmnt of Belgaum city.!!They are only interested in merging Bgm in MH, which will never happen.!!!
Dude….It's not only MES is wants Belgaum in MH…. Maharastra wanted Belgaum city in Maharastra otherwise they would have been accepted Mahajan commision. Issue belongs Belgaum city….
The main concern belongs normal people in Belgaum…so our sincere request to both states & center…identify the solution & resolve the issue in favour of both states….
Whether it is mayors and Dy.mayors or for that matter most of politicians in Belgaum are unfit to be leaders!!! They don't know what their responsiblities are? What are the priorities ? What is the public interest of Belgaum? They want to get involved into such activities which yield no results to the public but just cause destruction to the property or divide people and provoke hatred among the people.
Mayor and Dy mayor :- Jis thali mein khate hai usi thali mein chedh karahe hai…
They are good for nothing….
Raja Drohiyonkoo…………….. Waqut hi sazaa Degaaa. Aur Kala din Puri Zindagi ke leyea Kali Banjayegi. Are jis tali may khatehooo usehi tali may tukatehooooo Sharma karooo!
are schools n colleges closed tomorrow????????????????????/
Mayor is the FIRST CITIZEN of Belgaum, she is also the chairman of the sub-committe of the rajyostava. It was her lawful duty to attend the function being the FIRST CITIZEN of Belgaum and follow the protocols of the state, she may have later attend the procession of MES in personal capacity as an protestor. Here I think It was a wrong move by the Mayor and the deputy Mayor skipping the meet. In clear terms she being an part of Karnataka govt, she has shown anti state feelings.
I am not speaking on behalf of anybody , nor kannada nor marathi, but as a citizen of this country and belonging to karnataka as per the law. Mayor & deputy mayor by doing so have shown that Belgaum is going no where, it won't develop ever, as state govt will crunch the funds meant for belgaum and investors will chose other cities on behalf of Belgaum..
Well done Mayor, MES, Thank you for helping and participating Belgaum NOT DEVELOP. Let us all live in old times.
lets us respect the democracy as all we do
lets everybody has rights to do and speck what he wants to do just take an example how many settled Kannada and Tamil or Gujarati people really want to go back to their own state from Maharashtra
but we want to go to Maharashtra..why shame on karanataka ..just check the history ..
This all nonsense would have never happened if mayor and deputy mayor would have stayed at their homes instead of attending MES rally…..They are the responsible for all this….If they dont want to attend Rajyotsva function, then they should be at home atleast… They want all facilities from Karnataka govt but they want bgm to b in maharashtra…Nonsense…If they r really supporting MES then they should not use any fcilities provided by karnataka, if they have any kind of shame… Now everyone will be having bad opinion about belgaum that, belgaum will be famous for only these kind of bandh not with development….sad…
I heard that stone pelting is happned on Prakash theatre which is showing kannada movie. This is absolutely Goondagiri…For no reason, they are damaging theatre here…This clearly shows MES ppl do not think about public property and they will do goondagiri…
Belgaum , historically has been a part of the Kannada region and has seen many such dynasties ruling over it. But the scenario in the region changed in 18th century as in other parts of India. This was the period which saw the expansion of Maratha empire under the Peshwas which culminated in realising the famous saying of "Attock to Cuttack". Hence a large chunk of Karnataka region formed a part of the then Maratha empire and was called the "Southern Maratha Country (most of North Karnataka). By the time Britishers came to power this region was dotted by the remanants of Maratha empire ruling over their jagirs and states. But the language of the land essentially remained Kannada. This has been beautifully summed up by famous historian and civil servant of the erstwhile Bombay presidency John Faithfull Fleet in his book "The Dynasties of the Kanarese Districts of the Bombay Presidency" (1894), which incidentally forms a part of the Gazetteer of the Bombay Presidency (Vol-1, Part-II, Book-III) [4] . The first page of the book explains the ground realities of the time, which goes as,
" In defining the limits of the Kanarese language, on the west and north may be designated "by a line drawn from Sadashivgad (Karwar), to the westward of Belgaum,Hukkeri through Kagal and Kurundwad, passing between 'Keligaon' and 'Pandegaon' through Brahmapuri on Bhima and Sholapur and thence east, to tand thence east, to the neighbourhood of Bidar. This however wrongly excludes Kolhapur. As for Sholapur which now officially counts as a Marathi District , Kanarese is still , to a great extent the vernacular of south east corner of it. And there are Kanarese inscriptions of the Western Chalukyas ,Kalachurya and Devagiri Yadavas of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries and some later ones, at Sholapur itself, and at Kudal and Mohol in that district, and at Karajgi, Kudal, and Tadwal in the Akalkot state.
"…In official language the four recognised Kanarese districts of this presidency viz. Belgaum,Bijapur and Dharwar collectorates together with the Kolhapur, Miraj and other Native states called the "Southern Maratha Country". A more misleading appellation, however it originated, could not well have been devised. It is true that, in one of the earliest inscriptions of Pulakesin II, this part of the country is included in what was known then and even many centuries before his time as Maharashtra. But this term meaning literally "the great country", does not inherently imply any of the racial and linguistic peculiarities which are now naturally attached to the terms 'Maratha' and 'Marathi', derived from it. In the whole area of so-called Southern Maratha country ,not a single Marathi inscription has been discovered, of a greater age than two or three centuries. With the exception that two Prakrit records have been obtained at Banawasi in North Kanara and 'Malavalli' in Mysore, and that a few Prakrit words occur here and there in other records, the inscriptions are all either in pure Sanskrit or pure Kanarese, or in the two languages combined. This fact speaks of itself, as to what the vernacular of the country was in early times. In the present day, the people and the language of British districts are essentially Kanarese; and the Kanarese people and language have been displaced , to a certain extent, by the Marathi people and language in the Native States, only because those States were established by the aggressions of the Marathas from the north, whose local influence proved to be greater than that of the native rulers whom they dispossessed. Even in the Native States, and in Marathi official correspondence, the Political Agent at Kolhapur is ,to the present day always addressed as the Political Agent, not of the "Dakshina Maharasthra" or "Southern Maratha Country, but of the "Karavira Ilakha and the Karnataka Prant"
Hence when linguistic reorganisation of states were decided upon this was the background available to the Commission as a part of official records and language was the basis. As a result the resultant Maharashtra didnt include the 'Maratha' ruled areas of Baroda, Indore or even Gwalior except for Kolhapur as the Commission took into consideration all the changes in the region over a long p
Marathi people should understand that marathi culture, language etc is so rich because of kannada influence.
So they should learn to respect kannada, who knows before marathi they were all kanndigas as marathi is very new.
Varadraj… your name itself is a Maharashtrian name..do some reserch on what Deshpande mans.
all ——-kars', all Kulkarnis' all Patils have Maharashtrian names! Agreed.. your historic knowledge is excellent.. but please note that the Maharashtra is not claiming entire district… only the Belgaum and Khanapur Taluks and Nippani and its suburbs are asked. Regularly the local people are electing Marathi people from these areas are Marathi speakers only.
Again the same thing….. the great maratha on roads, do they have self pride in saying we are maratha. The Great people who ruled the great hindu state are here in belgaum to divide the people in the name of language and spread hatred among marathi & kannada people. They feel as if they are in Kashmir & want to join pakistan. Whats there in staying in karnataka or maharashtra. we are Indians first. Later on anything if we are.
So let build a nation, being together & develop belgaum to become a great city with peace. so that people should come here and in turn our business, Commerce & industries will grow & everyone should live happily.
Come lets build a happier tomorrow for u & your children…..
Proud to be Belgaumite
There are few frustrated people in Belgaum who are good for nothing and do not want to see Belgaum Develop into a landmark place in India .. they are followed by few who get free alcohol and food from this frustrated people and want to come to limelight .. Its disgusting to see Belgaum development in the hands of this Mindless people ……
There is no Bandh.. Dont believe such stupid calls and pay no heed to it.

Dude dont say anything about Maratha……. Maratha is rulling the country now india's first person is maratha oinly forget it i dont want to discuss on this topics there r much more points on it…..
u ppl are telling about MES….. did any1 speaks about marathi culture in bgm,liv about bgm city,if u go around bgm taluka villages not single person speaks Kannada lang.they cant read kannada lang. so they r suffering towards thier personal docs, jobs, they do not get any facility from karnataka Govt.,facing much more problems in Agreeculture section, even they do not get good water to drink, primary education, public transport, then y should they support ur karnataka govt………
@ Sandeep,
I have spent my childhood in Belgaum had my whole education was in belgaum. I know both language at the back of my hand and can write/speak both language much better than people in mumbai where mostly hindi is used and people in bangalore where mostly tamil/telagu is used.
And I am not the only one there are many belgaumites who know both language and use it as per their convince It just that you need to make efforts to learn to live in harmony and not in hatred.
I agree with your concren..Ppl accross the country will come to bangalore and they will not understand documents given in local lang..So what would you suggest them…I am taking eg of blore because there are lot of tamilians stays and settled there and i never heard they making this kind of demand like MES n u. You take eg of Sollapur, many kannadigas are there and they never made demand like MES…Infact, throught country never heard from any state or ppl this kind of demand…cant understand what you are trying to prove here.
Funny argument you foolish fanatic, then muslims will demand they want everything to be in urdu and hence
belgaum should be in pakistan, it is insane people like you who destroy the integrity of the country
Mr. Indian what r u commenting on!!!!. Wake up … Read it clearly & comment.
The solution to problem in belgaum is simple . put in place a mechanism where three languages becomes medium of every thing ,english ., marathi, kannada .dont force any thing on others let people learn language by love for it and not for fear of it , develop belgaum .generate employment by bringing in good industries , push for agriculture reforms and growth ,develop infrastruucture , crack down heavily on corruption in government machinery . bring transparency in all department ,fix accountability , if all these things are implemented belgaum will surely be a leading and top place in india
jai hind!!!!!!

Both our mayors have their own choices…they are free to join any camp…who the hell is KRV to take law in their hands….? All the protest were peaceful then why the fuss…shame in KVR.
Remember you cannot force any1 to follow someones culture, and learn the language…I agree as since belgaum is in Karnataka , learning Kannada is favorable, but its again up to individual to decide.
One should be proud of his/her culture…that does not mean you ask the whole city to forget theirs and only follow urs..that is very wrong.
MES has right to protest and hell they will, as long as they are also going by the rules there should not be a prob..!!
You are 100% correct….They can join any group…But they cant do it when they are part of Government…I mean taking facilities from Karnataka govt being mayor of belgaum – karnataka and supporting MES. This is not at all accetable….If they really with MES and wanna do it then they should resign as Mayor and gon do anythng they want…Then i bet you nobody will ask including KRV or protest against them…
wht is KRV ?? is it a political party to contest in any elexions ?? its jus a rogue unit like SIMI…whereas MES is a political unit at local level…KRV has no rites to do all dis…and the kar-nataka police will b biased onli against MES…bandh is just a protest agnst dis attack,.,
KRV is not political party – you are only answering everything here …and yes MES is political party and hence they want their existance in belgaum as nobody is getting elected in assembly elections… Understand this.
KRV is not into politics..Think 10 times this…KRV is not political party and MES is political party and they want their existance…
mr sandeep we are hindus first and then kannada or marathi !!!!!!!! just keep an hand over your heart and tell has any marathi person harmed any kannada person on language issue . no and never .krv is an rogue organisation doing business in name of language similarly mes many leaders has made fortune of these issue but ultimate sufferers are bedlgaum common people .let thei be 3 language policy ,respect for each other ,the problem will get solve over .
Then why are SS/MNS against Bhaiyas in mumbai, why are they forcing people to learn marathi. Think twice before commenting. MES is fooling people for last 56 years, what they have done when they were in power only gondagardhi & no development of marathi people. In last 10 years there is good development of belgaum and surrounding villages only because it was under power of other state parties. MES is not interested in development of marathi people nor belgaum.
lets every one play role in development of city & not waste time in such silly things.
Mr vinayak, bhaiyas are from north india, came to do the work/busineess in mumbai for their survival. But marathi peoples native is belgaum & originally staying here from thousand of years. You may check previous revenue record which was in marathi or modi font only. MES is not fooling but you people are not accepting the truth that it was unjustified merge of belgaum in karnataka against the will of lakhs of belgaum marathi peoples.Secondly after 1995 indian economy has been improved & due to globalization now the world became a small village. Everywhere in india development is going on, even in a bihar also. Lot of cities are developed, for example greater noida. Now the fund amount also has been increased for development & for corruption also. Dont blame MES on development. Did you had mobile phone in 1990? Did you had maruti car or hero honda &CNC machines before 1985? Did you had ATM &multiplexes before 2000?have you heard 5 crore jackpot prize before 2011in india. Now every where development boom is there, but you are unnecessarily blaming to MES. We also know the DEVELOPMENT but do not know how you misunderstand the belgaum issue.
Guys…………… Pls understand the truth MES & TARUN BHARAT just they want to fire B'tween Kannada & Marathi people. Pls D'nt discuss on these issue its w'st of time-:)
Mayor & Dy. Mayor should have taken part in both the functions…. Tats the only right option they had to play safe in this kind of situation.. They have hurt the sentiments of the people of the city by not doing so. They should better apologize and put an end to this issue… KRV & MES should maintain restraint and not cause damage to public property.
OK, after discussions, 40 posts what was the the result of all this…nothing but possibly two unknown persons who have never met in life have turned enemies just by posting contrasting comments…… this is sad……
do not use the forum to make enemies but instead build rational relationships…….and if you have to really comment.. type it in notepad… delete it…. I do it this way.. I have vented by anger and also not made any enemies…………
In belgaum kannada people want only kannada as major language and they are trying to dissolve marathi language and culture , and even this karnataka govt is not waiting for supreme court decision and started constructing vidansouda against the filling of marathi people and to show belgaum is part of karnataka. Marathi people will get justice from supreme court i.e maharastra belgaon.
jai maharastra
