Independent MLA from Belagavi South and senior leader of Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti Sambhaji L. Patil and his son Sagar are facing a charge of dowry harassment with Mr. Sagar’s wife lodging a complaint with the Women Police Station here on Saturday.
Sagar’s wife, Sheetal (34), has lodged the complaint against her husband, her father-in-law (Mr. Sambhaji), her mother-in-law Ujwala S. Patil, besides seven others, including her sister-in-law and her husband.
Mr. Sambhaji, a four-time Mayor of Belagavi, is accused number two and his wife is third among the 10 accused persons.
Sheetal has also accused her husband of marrying another woman on April 19, 2016, with his parents blessings, and claimed that she had been manhandled by her husband and his family members for objecting to the second marriage. Sheetal’s husband Sagar, the main accused.
Women Police Station officials said that cases have been registered under Sections 498, 504, 494/149 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, based on the complaint.
