This year the new year parties in Belgaum could go DRY as the zilla and taluk panchayat polls in Belgaum will be held on December 31. Belgaum boasts the highest number of seats in ZP and in taluk panchayats, at 336.
As per the normal course the sale of liquor is banned from the 6pm a day before the election day and is lifted only after the day of elections in the morning.
Taking this precedent then liquor shops could be shut on 6pm of 30th December and entirely closed on 31st December. If this is the case then all the new year parties will go dry.
When AAB contacted a bar owner on this, he said, we still havent received any notice so far from the excise department. And if we have close shop on 31 it will be a great loss to us and also the State as huge chunk of excise money will be lost on that day.
