A division bench of the Karnataka High court headed by Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee gave his direction on the PIL filed by Farmers that defence authorities will not be able to use the said lands located in nine villages namely Savagaon, Hangarga, Benakanahalli, Mandoli, Navage, Belagundi, Bijagarni, Kuttaalavadi, Bokanar in Belagavi Taluk measuring 7469.11 acres as Field Firing Range for field firing and artillery activities.

The entire acquisition procedure was not yet complete.
In August 2014 farmers were issued notices for acquisition of cultivation land for acquisition and DC had given its clearance.
But the Govt had already alloted land for firing range to the army in Ramdurg and Marihal, but the army has been unable to utilize the same.
