The Belagavi district administration has decided to restrict the manufacturing of plaster of Paris (PoP) and coloured Ganesh idols. It has also decided to initiate steps to prevent bringing in such idols from other districts.
The Press note further mentions that the idol makers have been already informed that PoP idols should not be prepared, and if the same order is violated strict actions under the law would be initiated.
Chairing a special meeting organised to chalk out measures to prevent manufacture and sale of Ganesh idols made of PoP here on Monday, DC Ziaullah instructed officials of the Belagavi City Corporation and Pollution Control Board to inform manufacturers of Ganesh idols of the legal consequences of manufacturing PoP and coloured idols. He told the officials to prevail upon the manufacturers make idols with mud, which is not harmful.
The Police, City Corporation has been asked to visit the idol makers and see if any PoP idols are made, if, found those should be collected and stored in one place. No one will be allowed to use any PoP Ganesh Idols.
All the Police Stations have been informed and if anyone is found to be making idols of PoP the same would be confiscated.
