Prakash Nikam, IPS, who served as a trainee IPS officer at the Belagavi Rural Police Station around 2012–13, has taken charge as the new Commissioner of Police, Belagavi City, returning to Belagavi after 14 years.
Nikam assumed charge on Thursday, with outgoing Police Commissioner Bhushan Borse handing over the responsibilities to him.
He arrived at the Belagavi Police Commissioner’s Office at 12 noon, where he was accorded an official guard of honour by the police force. The formal handover of charge followed.
Speaking to the media after taking charge, Nikam recalled his earlier stint in Belagavi as a trainee officer.
“I previously worked in Belagavi as a trainee officer for about six months. At that time, it was under the jurisdiction of the District Police; now, a Police Commissionerate has been established here. The situation has changed significantly over the past few years.”
Nikam expressed confidence that, with the cooperation of the police force and citizens, law and order would be effectively maintained in Belagavi city and its surrounding areas.
