Laxmi Hebbalkar, the Cabinet Minister for Women and Child Development, Disabled and Senior Citizens Empowerment, as well as the MLA for Belagavi Rural, actively participated in a progress review meeting regarding the land acquisition of Belagavi and Halga village lands. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the construction of a Sewage Water Treatment Plant (STP) in Belagavi city. The meeting took place at the office of the District Collector of Belagavi.
During the meeting, the focus was on submitting a new proposal to increase the compensation provided to farmers whose lands are located near the Halaga Sewerage Treatment Plant. It was acknowledged that the current compensation is insufficient. The Metropolitan Corporation and the district administration will collaborate to present this proposal to the government. The meeting emphasized the importance of treating farmers fairly and fulfilling all promises made to them in the past.
Farmers should never be subjected to unfair treatment under any circumstances. The minutes of the previous meetings were meticulously examined and analyzed. Additionally, concerns and grievances from farmers have been duly acknowledged.
In 2017, former Urban Development Minister, mandated compensation from both the Municipal Corporation and the government. Consequently, a fresh proposal will be presented during the upcoming cabinet meeting, and swift action will be taken to provide immediate relief to the farmers. The minister reassured the farmers that both the government and the municipal corporation are committed to taking necessary measures to alleviate their hardships. The DC and Corporation Commissioner at that time had pledged to offer increased compensation, employment opportunities, and shops to the farmers. However, this promise has not been fulfilled, which is undeniably unjust to the farmers. It is imperative that further steps be taken to prevent any form of injustice towards the farmers. Minister Hebbalkar proposed that the police should also treat the farmers with utmost respect and courtesy. The farmers expressed their gratitude to the minister for advocating on their behalf and raising funds for their cause.
In addition to Laxmi Hebbalkar, other notable attendees included Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ashoka Dudgunti, Belagavi Sub Divisional Officer, Tehsildar, and various other officials.
