The much-anticipated Belagavi-Dharwad railway project via Kittur has received a budgetary allocation of ₹8.51 crore in the Union Railway Budget for 2025-26. This comes after the project was left without an outlay in the 2024-25 budget, despite its sanctioned cost of ₹602.4 crore under the Umbrella Work PB#22/2019-20/NR.

Despite the allocation, significant progress on the Belagavi-Dharwad railway line remains uncertain, as land acquisition is still pending. The funds appear to be directed more towards preliminary assessments and groundwork rather than the commencement of actual construction.

Union Minister of State for Railways, V Somanna, announced that Karnataka has been allocated ₹7,564 crore in the railway budget for 2025-26, a slight increase from the previous year. A senior railway official termed it the highest-ever allocation for the state.

  1. Why BELAGAVI – DHARWAR railway line project is not gathering momentum is the question that needs to be asked to the state government. The land acquisition for the project is pending for the last several years. This is squarely the state government’s responsibility. They are going very slow on it. Two cabinet ministers in Belagavi should take a series note of this and speed up the required land acquisition. Otherwise this project is likely be “shelved” if the things are delayed indefinitely. Had the land acquisition been done as per the original time table there would certainly have been a larger provision in 25-26 union budget. The state government must ensure that the pending groundwork is completed in time bound manner to make this project a reality.

  3. Very disappointed, all said and done but nothing on paper, only lip satisfaction, by December land acquisition was to be completed as said in meeting that took place in belgaum with the DC, appraising very much of the DC. People were eagerly looking for things to move on a FastTrack. None of the promises hv come into reality. No overbridges hv started , inspite of funds having been allocated. No vandebharath as promised, inspire of escalating it the highest forum before the PM. Mr jagdesh shetter and Abhay patils efforts hv not yielded . only assurance, from mr prahalad joshi MP either by starting one more new vande bharath express from bgm . As said by rly minister no amrit bharath sleeper forthcoming . Only keep people dreaming about development. More said but nothing in reality. Fund sanctioned for pune miraj londa section is in maharastra not in karnataka the said funds should be allocated from out of allocation of maharastra. So much amt should be utilized for bgms rly work. Less said is enough. Hope all the MPs do come together and speed up the works of this side.
