Rains causing havoc in North Karnataka

Untimely rains caused due to the low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal is causing havoc in North Karnataka; major districts affected are Belgaum, Bagalokot, Bijapur, Raichur & Gulburga.

More than 40 people have been reported dead from Gulbraga, Raichur, Koppal, Karwar, Bijapur Gadag and Dharwad combined.

In a shocking accident, 6 people, including 3 children and a teenager were washed away in Masagnal village near Koppal, as the Innova car they were traveling in, attempted to cross a flooded bridge, on Friday morning. Dr Shivaram Pille, of Belgaum, the sole survivor from the ill-fated vehicle, lost his entire family consisting of his wife Dr. Radharani (32), daughters Akshata (9) and Aishwaraya (5), and son Rohit (6).

The Belgaum Amboli road is blocked for traffic and the Mumbai Panji highway is also closed to traffic due to flooding.

Haripriya express to Tirupati/Hyderabad was cancelled yesterday and same could be today as well. People taking the Haripriya express kindly confirm its departure today.

State transport buses which had left to Hyderabad returned today early morning from Raichur as a part of the highway was washed away.

A few cases of wall & roof collapses have been reported from Belgaum city as well but there has been no loss of life.

Rains have taken a break since yesterday and even today it’s very cloudy but it’s not pouring.
