Rani Chennamma University (RCU) in Belagavi has achieved a significant milestone in its pursuit of higher education excellence by securing a grant of Rs 100 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) scheme. This initiative, spearheaded by the central government, aims to elevate the standards of government-run and aided higher education institutions across the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the project via video conference recently, marking a pivotal moment for RCU and its academic community. The funding, allocated under the Multidisciplinary Education and Research Universities component of the PM-USHA scheme, is poised to propel RCU towards excellence in teaching, research, and infrastructure development.

The PM-USHA program, succeeding the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), aims to enhance the quality of education by improving teaching standards and advocating for the accreditation of colleges and universities nationwide. Under this scheme, 78 universities, including RCU, have been selected for financial assistance.

It is noteworthy that the funding allocation comprises Rs 100 crore for Multidisciplinary Education and Research Universities and an additional Rs 20 crore for strengthening universities. The contributions from the central government and states reflect a collaborative effort to bolster the higher education landscape.

Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, Irannna Kadadi, played a pivotal role in advocating for RCU’s inclusion in the PM-USHA scheme. His unwavering support and commitment to educational development have been instrumental in securing this substantial grant for the university.

As RCU prepares to embark on its journey of growth and innovation, the university community looks forward to leveraging the PM-USHA grant to foster academic excellence, research innovation, and holistic development.
