Rape accused remanded to police custody

The 4 accused of gang rape on February 15 near Kakati have been remanded to police custody after they made their appearance in the court.

Before taking them to the court the accused were taken to hospital for examination and then later produced in court.

The four arrested men have been identified as Sanju alias Baba Sidappa Daddi (24), a resident of Muthyanatti; Suresh alias Cacha Baramappa Belagavi (24), a resident of Muthyanatti; Sunil alias Yallapasya Lagamanna Rajakatti (21), a resident of Muthyanatti; and Mahesh Balappa Shivannagol (23), a resident of Managautti village in Hukkeri taluk.

Sources said that they threatened the accused not to reveal their names. It was also learnt that they recorded their act on their mobile phones and threatened to blackmail the victim. Police are also investigating if any video was recorded and circulated. Police sources said the four men have confessed to the crime.

Accused have been booked under IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).

  1. Need to have pressure by public on the police to ensure justice is rendered. Editor sir please provide numbers of DCP and dc to call in by belgaum citizens. This is a shame and we need to ensure thugs cannot even dream of doing such a thing in future. Belgaum should not become the next Delhi. Let all citizens become vigilant.

  2. This should be condemned in the strongest possible language. Papers report that the girl is a minor. Dear Editor, please have a stinging editorial on this. If we keep quiet we are encouraging these SOBs.
