A miraculous re-plantation of an amputated limb was carried out at Vijaya Ortho and Trauma Centre Belagavi on 12-06-2019.

A 5-year-old girl child met with an accident, sideswipe injury near Macche at around 06:00 P.M. The child had put her hand out of the window to collect rainwater and a vehicle coming from the opposite direction chopped off the arm separating it completely from her body.

She suffered from a traumatic amputation of the right upper limb at the distal arm level; she was immediately brought to Vijaya Ortho and Trauma Centre emergency department around 7.30 P.M. with the severed arm in a water bag.

The replantation (Rejoining) of the arm was planned on War Footing and the patient was taken to O.T. immediately.

orthoThe arm was replanted (Rejoined) by the team of senior doctors of Vijaya Ortho and Trauma Centre. The entire surgery lasted for 6 hours and the team was led by Dr. Ravi B. Patil (Orthopedic Surgeon) and included Dr. Kaustub Desai (Plastic Surgeon), Dr. Vithal Malmande (Plastic Surgeon), Dr. Aravind Hampannavar (Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon), Dr. Shridhar Kathavate (Anesthesiologist), Dr. Shridhar Kalakeri (Anesthesiologist) and Dr. Borendra Bhushan (Anesthesiologist).

The patient is currently recovering speedily and the limb is successfully rejoined. The patient and the hand both are under close monitoring and it may take 5-7 days for complete recovery.
