The State government on Thursday finally issued notification reserving the post of mayor for OBC (A) category and the deputy mayor for General (Women).
The elections to the seats of mayor and deputy mayor were supposed to be held on April this year. But due to the litigation and the code of conduct for the Assembly elections, the elections did not happen.
After the reservations have been declared heavy lobbying will commence for the fight of the post of Mayor and Deputy and each time this fight is always seen with a view of language bias.
The strength of the Marathi speaking councillors is 33, while Kannada is 19 and 6 are from Urdu group. Last elections the there were 31 Marathi, 18 Kannada and 9 Urdu speaking councillors.
Out of the said 33 Marathi group, 24 are affiliated to the MES.
